Default Saab files for bankruptcy protection

Apologies if this has been mentioned on here already. Seems they want to break away from GM. Also strong rumours today that Ellesmere Port Vx is about to be shut for good. Awful news for them if correct

Saab have been losing vast sums of money since 2001 so even without the credit crunch they should have been closed down

Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

Like I said, just a rumour mate. They were talking about it on 5Live earlier today and questioning which UK Car Plant it might be. Lots of people texted in to say the plant in question was Vx at Ellesmere. The programme hosts were talking to a govenrment MP at the time about the story and put to him that lots of listeners were texting in to say the plant in question was Ellesmere. He declined to comment saying that for him to say anything in public about any plant would be wrong whilst nogotiations were ongoing

This news report suggests Ellesmere too:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ministers.html

And this one suggests GM may close 3 plants in Europe this year:

This news site also says 3 to close and again highlights Ellesmere as one of the most likely:

Reuters also saying Ellesmere at risk:

If the plant in Ellesmere Port closes they may as well close Ellesmere Port. I know loads of people that work there (my dad was there for 35 years) but I guess it's the same for any plant and town throughout Europe.

All I've read in the papers so far has been speculation, the main driver being the fact that it is easier to shed jobs in the UK. It can be done in Europe (clearly, we've closed factories in the past) but it takes time and is a long process.

    Not good.
