    Angry Intermittent spanner light

    Hi,
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to check on my signum for the following fault(s)
The spanner light comes on intermittently with two possible results:
    1) Light stays on for maybe 10 seconds then goes out of it's own accord, no obvious effect on performance.
    2) Light comes on, then, engine rpm very slowly drops to 500rpm, accelerator has no effect at all. To reset I have to switch off for at least 10 seconds.

The fault only appears with the engine well warmed up and running for at least 30 minutes at normal road speeds. If the weather is cold (below 6C) it doesn't seem to happen at all but above this the car will run normally for a good while but once it's started this fault it becomes more and more of a problem. Last weekend for example; Friday, drove from cheshire to London, one stop at Watford Gap, no problem at all. Sunday, returned from London, the car was fine until the M42 then it started playing up. I eventually got to the services on the M6T after having had to use the hard shoulder 4 times. Stopped for about an hour, the rest of the run to Cheshire (Jnc 16) no problem.
Poxhall don't seem to have a clue, because it's intermittent and not being logged they can't fault it. I've checked all the hoses, joints, electrical coneections. Can't find a problem but there obviously is one.
    Can anyone help please

Few more details may be good mate, ie, is it petrol or diesel, has it had an induction kit etc, or a re-chip?? Year mileage, all this would help you on your mission??

    Vehicle : Signum 2.0 DTi

With it only working when the engine is hot it could be your vacuum unit , also where are your actuattors situated if you have two on your bulkhead and one by your maf unit you could be ok , but some early dti,s had them sited inbetween engine and battery and these should have been retrofitted to be by the maf these were found to be over heating and failing .

Sounds like a bad sensor some where, but the only way to point the right direction is getting the codes read IMO.

mine did this for a few days during the cold snap.

i also 'forced' it to do it the other day by making the car 'jump' in first gear by feathering the accelerator.
