    Default Brake pads sensor

At what point should the brake pad warning light come on?

My brakes are grinding quite loudly now and I've been holding off getting new pads (and discs) until I get the warning on the dash. Problem is, there has been no light yet. The last visual inspection I had, I was told my discs were starting to lip so I know I'll need to replace the pads (and discs) soon

    Couple of questions:

    1. Is it possible that I don't have the sensor?

    2. If I order pads (and discs) from the stealers, do I need to request the sensor seperately, or does the old one plug in to the new pads?

    3. Is there a sensor on both front and rear pads?

    4. If I buy from someone like Brakes International, will they supply the sensor or will that need to be ordered seperately?

    Thanks guys

    1. Doubtful - I thought all Vec-C's had them

    2. Yes - there are two different sensor looms, one longer than the other with different connections to the main harness. Give VX stealer your reg. no. and he'll tell you which one you need.

    3. Front n/s only, nothing on the rears

    4. Think you need to order the sensor separately in all cases

According to the handbook, the brake wear sensors are an optional extra and not fitted as standard.

It's easy to see the sensor wire on the n/s front wheel, just put full left lock on and have a look at the brake caliper.

Just cos the disc has a lip, doesn't necessarily mean that it needs replacing. It is bound to get a lip formed as the disc does wear slightly over time, unless the disc is below it's minimum thickness then it would be fine to not replace.

not all veccys have brake sensors on (or so i belive)

if you have you may struggle to get them off to refit, so just order a new pair
