    Default ECU/engine management Reset?

    Hi All

Just a quickie , i have just put a deposit on a vectra 3.2 elite auto which i collect next week , my question is my last auto was a mercedes 300e-24 and you were able to reset the engine managment with a combination of key movments in the ignition , the reason for asking is that i drove/tested 4 3.2 auto's in total 2 vectras and 2 signums, when driving i found that 1 vec and 1 sig felt really fruity and the other vec/sig quite sluggish (for a 3.2) so just wondered was it someting to do with the engine managment learning the style of the previous drivers and if i could reset it ?

Thanks for any help in advance ( im sure i will be asking for more help when i pick her up)

Just disconnect the battery for 20 mins and that will do the trick mate.

Big Phil a GSi owner saw 20 odd bhp increase in the rollers before and after just from a reset. He had previously fitted a filter and upgraded zorst. The reset made the ECU relearn all its parameters. You will notice when the battery is disconnected the car runs like a bag of @@@@ for about 100 miles as it relearns.

yeah but thats after modifications,so your saying that a ecu learns how it's being driven and then looses power

Apparently CDTi's with boxes fitted need resetting now and again as the ECU compensates over time for the over fueling. I understand what you mean though. From first hand experience, I reset the ECU while clearing a fault code and my MPG went up 3-4 points. I had previously fitted a new stock filter about 1 month earlier. The ECU was obviously using base info still from the old filter. So all I'm saying is a good old spring doesn't do any harm as it seams the ECU takes an age to alter its parameters on its own.
