Default Anyone recommend tuning box for 2.2 DTi?

My wife is about to collect our latest 2nd car (Vectra C 2,2 DTi SRi) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a tuning box that I could safely fit to it to boost the power a wee bit?

    Cheers,

    Phil

Recommendation is, don't bother. Tuning boxes on the DTi are a waste of money.

Don't they offer any additional performance then?

I've had a CDTi 150 with a tuning box and the difference is really like night and day when it's fitted and thought that for even a small performance gain it'd be worthwhile fitting a 2.2TDi with one?

The few I've seen have just caused heartache, EMLs, clogged inlet manifolds or just plain didn't work.

The only box I would consider putting on a 2.2 id the Steinbauer one, which gives about 20bhp & a few torques extra. But they're expensive new - I've had a quote of about £400.

Don't attempt to remap a DTI engine, this is a disaster as the injector pump seals aren't strong enough to cope with much extra pressure.

The CDTI 120 & 150 engines are Fiat JTD engines, very different, much more modern, and very tunable... night & day as you say!

Yeah, the only similarities between the DTi and the CDTi are they both run on diesel.

One's an Opel designed SOHC chain driven 16v with a Bosch VP44-based direct injection system, the other's a Fiat design based off an older petrol engine, DOHC run by belt using a Bosch EDC16 commonrail system.

Many thanks for your suggestions....esp "Don't bother"

I've basically told the missus she's not getting the 2.2DTi and managed to find a facelift 1.9 CDTi 150 Design for her at an extra cost of £400 to what the 2.2 was going to cost .

I doubt she'd be happy with the 2.2 in the long run after having the use of my SRi CDTi 150 from time to time anyway?

    Cheers,

    Phil

I've had both engines - the 1.9 (150) when I bought a brand new Vectra Exclusiv in November 2006, and the 2.2 in my current Saab 9-5.

Not much wrong with the 2.2 so far - from the paperwork it's only ever lost a starter motor, and it's now on 134,000 miles.

    Loving it in fact
