    Default Sliiping Clutch ??

    Morning all,

During a spirited take off this morning I noticed that my clutch was slipping, I could rev the engine in gear I eased off and everything seemed to come back to normal. I accelerated hard in gear a couple of times and all seemed OK.

Could I have set the clutch spinning by being over entusiastic or is it a sign that the clutch is on its way out ?

The car is a 2.2 direct 48k miles (me for the last 30k) I would say not abused.

I would hope not at that sort of mileage, it's only just run in. ..

That makes me feel a bit better.

I will try the handbrake on and ease off clutch test at lunch time.

    I just don't fancy a big bill

I was pulling onto a main road, slight up hill and I noticed the revs were climbing quicker than they should be.

I then floored the loud pedal in 4th and and the revs went up to 6k with hardly any increase in speed.

I wondered if I had started the clutch slipping and didn't give it time to recover or if I had a problem.

I suppose only time will tell but this would be the first clutch I have ever had go on me if it is that.

Yep I've had the same once or twice when I've gone into the wrong gear when the revs are rising really fast. The Vectra seems to have something built-in to prevent engine damage by cutting the power but not necessarily the revs. Like once when I inexplicably went from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th at 70mph. I also believe the BSR remap has a similar built-in safeguard which limits the power when the engine is not fully warmed up.
