Interesting - maybe the cheap pound is doing something after all. Why they don't just shut down Saab, I don't know.
I've been following this story for months.
GM have proposed project 'Renaissance'. It's a cost-cutting, restructuring plan.
Most say it will bring about the end of Vauxhall/Opel.
From what I can gather, today is the deadline for VX to present it's ideas for major restructuring to GM.
If it fails, well, I don't have to tell you what the result will be.
Not looking good is it.
Odd thing is, like Ford, it's the European plants that make the profits.
I presume that's because it's US owned MLC.
I think Ellesmere Port is most at risk of job losses as far as the UK is concerned. Dark times.
Yes but the USA taxpayers are stumping up the cash to kepp GM running - they aren't going to tolerate US jobs going while overseas plants remain open. And lets face it - He who pays the piper calls the tune.
The Sweedish Gov are subsidising Volvo & SAAB at present, maybe thats what the VAT free offer is all about. The trouble is if every Gov subsidises its car makers the end result still wont be a lot more new cars sold, times are hard. I can see a management buy out being the best survival strategy for Vauxhall / Opel and Ford Europe.
Vauxhall is Rover all over again.
It was yesterday that they had to present the ideas to the big bosses. We started on our new 30 hour week as part of the package.
