    Default CRD2- ERG Valve

Hi, just had to replace my EGR valve. Does anyone know roughly how many mile you get out of these, also would the use of my CRD2 cut down the life span of my old one?

I've ran a tuning box "Diesel Tuning Spider" for 70,000 miles & I've had the EGR replaced once (& the alternator). Two guys at work with bog standard 1.9cdti 150's have both had there EGR valves (& Alternators) replaced too, put it down to cr*p components not the tuning boxes

    Mileage 30-40K

It stands to reason that Boxes and Remaps will produce more carbon build-up in the EGR system (EGR valves don't open and close quickly enough to keep excess smoke/carbon from entering the system). It also depends on what sort of driving/mileage you do and where you get your fuel from!

Just removed and cleaned my EGR valve today properly, had a quick bash a couple of weeks ago but off work today so time to do it properly.

Used Wynns carb cleaner as recommended on here, great stuff shifts loads of carbon build up. I let it soak this time and cleaned everywhere I could reach. Valve opens much easier and smoother once cleaned. It was sticking before. I am convinced a tuning box adds to carbon build. I had very poor power on startup and excess smoke at times. Valve cleaned and its great.

I forgot just how much bottom end torque this engine had, must have lost it slowly not to notice. Drives like new again. Sport button removes all lag again.

For £5 get yourself a can of carb cleaner and give it a go. Easy job, 2 hours max including soak time. While I was waiting i removed the airbox entirely and cleaned it completely. Oily sludge in bottom half of airbox and some moisture. Top half was clean so filter is doing its job.
