Default Time to write a letter????

Heres my little story of my wifes car, bought a 2.0Dti in December from E*ans-H*lshaw (You know who I mean), paid cash (in the current economic climate the saleman thought xmas had came a week early), its 2004 with 50k on, seamed mint condition........they gave me a years warranty...........when we went to pick it up after its 100 point check (********) it had a snapped rear spring, so we had to go back the following day to get it, this time it ws dark and when we got home found that the fuel cap lock was snapped off, interia light did'nt work and it hadnt been valeted. They apologised and booked it in for the following week, the next day it would'nt start, they had to send a recovery truck to take it back and as my wife was demanding a refund the salesman who turned up with a courtesy car said we would have to wait till after the xmas hols to see the manager. So after more apologies and a free service promise we get the car back (it was the sarter motor by the way), 3 weeks ago the temp gauge stopped working, phoned them up got it booked in, they changed the thermostat but that didnt cure it, instead it had developed a leak by the time we got home!!! Got it booked in again and after 10 days they have said the cylinder head gasket has gone and the head will need machining etc..................................so far they havent agued about soughting the car out but how much more should I take bearing in mind the wife wants me to asasinate everyone concerned with the garage. Has anyone else got anywhere from writing letters to directors etc..

Sounds like you've bought a lemon mate. I wouldn't want the car after all those problems.

Demand a refund and get some advise from Tradind Standards and as for Evans Halshaw they are a bunch of £%%^%&*(. I have had dealings with these when my wife had a Focus and now why she has a Corsa D.
As said matey try for a refund and buy else where but not Arnold Clark as there a bunch of !£$^&*((*^&% aswell.

Thanks for the replys, I forgot to mention that for the last week the wife has'nt had a curtesy car either, I dont think I've got any chance of getting a refund but if all they are offering is free services and things that dont cost them anything I'm not gona get any satisfaction (I wouldnt trust them to service it anyway). I'll report back if the tale continues.

Speak to Consumer Direct, or see their website. http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
If you try to ring most Trading Standards you will be directed to Consumer Direct anyway. Please, please, please do not try to circumvent the system by googling or using saynoto0870 as you will end up still having to ring CD and paying for two phone calls; unless you come throught to me

I always wonder, does there come a point where they must have replaced most of problematic parts of the car and it might be worth keeping when it's finally repaired properly?

I found EH an unpleasant bunch to deal with, would never use them again or recommend them to anyone.

I've heard so many complaints about lemons I wonder how carefully they buy their stock?

My thoughts are that as long as you are going along with their fixes you are stuck. The sooner you make up your mind the better. I feel the longer the saga continues it is reducing your chances of a satisfactory end result. Not an easy thing to do however if it were me & I had had enough I would say that's it hand the car back with a list of faults that are unacceptable (always keeping a copy of any correspondence including photographs) & take a stance outside the premises with a notice in bold writing that you have returned a car not fit for the purpose etc. It's worked for me on at least two occasions. You could also check out the legal route depending on the cost in the small claims court. Good Luck.
