    Default Radio Ga Ga...

So I went to get a new battery fitted and specifically said to the dealer that I didn't have the radio code (wasn't supplied when I bought the car).

I go back to pick the car up and the guys says 'we couldn't re-program your radio cos the code is missing..'

Then they refused to order the code for free and want to charge me £20 - robbing barstewards.

Obviously you don,t have the card with the codes and security details on. It would cost about £20 for a replacement anyway. I don,t know if the can get the code without the card though. There might be a form of code that they from that can get the radio code I don,t know.

I haven't got an official Vx Car Pass with the code(s) listed. Instead I received a print-out from the dealer who sold me the car (at no charge obviously); so it is not an impossibility for them to supply the codes without the proper Car Pass.

Problem is I didn't get the car from them. I bought it from Arnold Clark who I went to Trading Standards about so I'm not remotely interested in contacting them again.

I've seen some sites that offer codes for £3-£6 once you supply the radio serial number. Do you think I should go down this route or just bite the bullet and buy the pass code from the dealer?

i would go the car pass route as you will need the immobiliser code for any new keys or any electrical work that needs the code, and this will cost you more in the long run if you try and go the cheaper route now,i would advise you to pop the radio out and get the serial no off the side or there is a risk of getting the wrong code because the radio may have been changed in the past
