    confused Tyres on 18"

    Hi guys, i just needed some help, i currently have the vxr replica alloys (18") which are fitted with 225/40/18, the ride is really crap and i was thinking if you can give any suggestion's to what i can replace them to improve the qual of the ride with out feeling every hole in the road.

    was looking at 225/45/18 or 235/45/18?

    help much appreciated

    Think this is just part of low profile tyres. less give in the side walls.

    235 is the height/tyre wall
    40/45 is the width of the tyre

    id say 235/45 would be better a bit bigger in width and in height

    If you change the profile of your tires too much you will have to have your speedo re-callibrated as the overall diameter of your tyre will be bigger!!

    I thought it was the other way around!!

    235 = width
    45 = % of width in height!!(tyre wall)

    I don't think it will matter with any of those tyre sizes! Could be wrong?

    with those sizes you will have a 3.5 - 5% increase in overall tyre size which means your speedo will be out(not by much but it will be out) it is recommended that you have no more than 2.5% increase or decrease.

    try 235 40 18's. Not too far out so the speedo will be fine. The ride is all down to the height of the sidewall
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Well, if you think how much difference in height you will get between a new and old tyre if there is 6mm difference (twice!) then there should be a bit of tolerence. If you get yer maths books out you can plug the figures in to see which combo's come in within a few %.
