    Default Space Saver

Yesterday after cleaning the car I did a full tyre check to find the rear nearside completly bald with threads showing through , as it's a lease car & they only deal with Numpty Fit I rang around to find out if any of the local depots had any "225/45 18 Extra Loads" in stock as I've always had to get them ordered in, 2 of them said yes. Guess what I've been to both & they are not extra load & the lease company won't fit them.

I need to get to Sheffield & back ~140miles tomorrow & probably tuesday as well.

So has anyone done any real mileage on a space saver?, personally I think they are only suitable as a get me home device

There is some speed limit and distace for them. But I can not remember it. It might be in the handbook. But I think 50mph is the limit for them. If you keep your speed dwon you might be ok?.

Yes the Speed Limit is 80kph about 50mph, it'll improved the fuel economy if I don't get wiped out by a foreign lorry driver watching movies on his laptop

It's only intended as a get you home, about 50 miles
However, I have seen some people drive about on them for months
I have even seen a car with TWO of them!

they have to fit something for you and that the bottom line of the deal

if the tyre isnt legal they have to do it ,,,,if not ask where do you pick up your new car from as your car isnt fit for the road so cant be used .

there is a limit to how far you can drive on the space saver

Well I did 450miles over the last 3 days on the spacesaver, sticking to 50mph on the motorways. Best thing was the fuel economy went through the roof when I had the tyres fitted was showing 67mpg over 456miles, fuel gauge only at 1/2.

I've eventually managed to get 2 Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45 18 tyres

I gave my space saver away to my friendly dealer who will surely be able to give it away to another soul in need. They treat me right, and I got a full-size spare with a decent tyre. I was just glad to get shot TBH.
