    Default A grand day out

So, we set off on one of our regular trips to France on Saturday, as the wine rack was looking a bit empty. It turned out to be an excellent day, Eurotunnel were on time, the sun shone -lovely!
After a trip to the wine warehouse (which squashed the rear springs a bit), we headed down to Sangatte for a stroll on the beach and some lunch at one of our favourite restaurants (Le Blanc Nez). After lunch we went back to the beach to walk it off, but the tide had come in and eaten the beach, so we just took in the scenery, and played "count the ferry" (8 in view at one time. The Channel is like the M25 one a bad day!)
Then it was round to the Auchan hypermarket, to fill up the few remaining spaces in the back of the car.
I forgot my camera, so you can't see the pictures I would have taken, including the two matching cars (me and my brother both drive 3.0CDTI Elite Signums) outside the restaurant, the beach before and after the tide came in, and the two cars parked with a bright green Clio between them, captioned "Frog Sandwich".
Anyway the end of the day left us with 255 miles on the clock, average MPG 38, average speed 62 mph. 123 bottles of wine, a couple of cases of beer, and some other goodies. Lovely!

By the way, I do this trip quite often, so if anyone wants any suggestions about restaurants, shopping or hotels around Calais, give me a shout.

sounds as though you had a great day Phil - i love road trips, especially when the conditions make it a joy to drive!

and two 3.0 diesels on the motorway must've been a laugh - only on the way down though, i guess on the way back the cars must've felt very heavy indeed!

What a thoroughly pleasant day out!

Next time you head over Phil, give me a shout and I may come over with you (if you don't mind me tagging along). Then it could be a trio of Signums!

They felt a bit heavier, but the torque gets you through that!
And the jingling from the back makes it worth while!

Let us know next time, I feel a group trip coming on!!

That Auchan in Calais is hilarious, the characters wandering around there are trully amazing!

Absolutely love France. What about a 'Top Gear' style jaunt down to the Milau Viaduc?

Me & my mate have been on about doing that, but it's an epic drive. Too far for me I think.

I've got a mate who lives near Edinburgh who does the occasional trip. He gets a ferry from Newcastle to somewhere in Belgium.
    He does it overnight, though!
Auchan is always entertaining, due to the mix of Brits and locals. You can usually pick 'em out on sight, though. The Brits generally have more booze in their trollies!!!
