    Default 3.2 drive chain change

Just to let people know 80k or 8year not 40 like some people surggested,Also its a belt not a chain, chains on 2.2s not 3.2s v6s.And the cost was 450+vat, garage looked for free took 5mins to check! Plugs should be changed at 40k.

Why didn't you tag it onto that post so we knew it was related to it?

As its a belt, why are you referring to it as a drive chain in the subject header?

ps, the 2.0 turbo, 2.0 & 2.2 diesel is also chain, as well as the 2.2 petrol.

Also people suggest 40k as they have been known to fail way before the 80k mark. Also how do you visually check a continous rubber belt for wear? What was he looking for????? Sounds a bis suspect!

Still, your car, your engine, your peace of mind
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thinking about the spark plugs, just had a look at the owners service book for my 02 GSi. Says that plugs should be replaced no later than 80k miles.

For my 02 model, and I guess the 03 model, the book has two service schedules - one says replace cam belt every 8 years or 80k miles, the other says 4 years or 40k miles. I went in between and did it at 62k miles.

EDIT - £450 + VAT for the cam belt change would put the labour rates at nearly £147 an hour. Cam belt kit (no discount) at VX is £126.00 + VAT, labour @ 2.2 hours (inc tensioner and pulleys).
