Once clayed, wash again, then start on the finish, polish, glaze, and wax or seal to protect the finish. Then collapse........

The reason for washing after clay is to remove anything that the clay or clay lube have left behind, quick detailer, small peices of clay as when some clays become expired they start to brake up and fall apart. washing again removes everything and the result is a better finish especially if you just apply a coat of wax rather than paint cleanser, or polishing and glaze then wax.
