    Default Remote Start

I was looking to fit a remote start, but everythin seems to be remote start alarms/immobilisers etc, is it possible to get just the remote start for the ignition and then I suppose tie it in to the car's existing immobiliser and alarm? Anybody know how complicated/expensive this kind of thing is? Its a really cool feature but if its gonna be a major hassle or cost the earth it doesn't matter!

Seen it done on a Calibra before by my mate , but thats a different animal to the Vectra's eleccy's , so if you can, get a kit specifically for the car, your local ICE specialist will have the answers for you .

    Complicated, VERY, lol.
I would advise doing through an alarm, it's the only really secure way to do it.
On top of the cost of the alarm you will need another magic box, which I wont explain on an open forum, but another £40-£50, plus a spare key, and if you need to get a third one made up add another £60-£90 depending on your dealer.

IMO, there are better things to spend your cash on (and it probably would take a fair bit) than this kind of gimmick that has no real value or use. How does your insurance company view this kind of thing? Is security affected? or the Thatcham certification?

Save the cash for something else, you could give it to me if it's burning a hole in your pocket.

I've got a remote start. If it's frosty, I give the key to the missus and go and tell her to get the car going.

Oh, and I forgot to say, the only really SAFE way to have remote start is to have a auto gearbox not a manual.

Each to their own m8, just because you wouldn't have a use for it does not mean it is the same for other people.
It has a very real use, deep in the middle of winter it is invaluable for defrosting my windows, which is much appreciated either side of 12 hour shifts.
It can also be useful on blisteringly hot summer days to run the air con before you get into a cooked interior.
It also comes into it's own when, for example, you are away camping, and running things off your battery, TV, fridge etc and want to run the car to keep it topped up.
If fitted correctly the car is as secure as it was when it left the factory, in fact mine is WAY MORE secure.
The moment the car is interfered with in any way the alarm will turn the engine off, you cant open a door, or a window, or the boot or bonnet, you cant put it in gear, and you cant take the handbrake off with out the engine stopping.
Both alarms (my Clifford and the factory one) are still active all the time, so is the immobiliser, oh and the Clifford has a 2-way pager.
My insurance company know what alarm I have fitted, its up to them to look into the features it has.

Absolutely each to their own, that's why I started the line with IMO, cos it was my opinion. I've done stuff other may not like / think is useless.
