Default stopped by police - fog lights

On my way to footy last nite (yes, at my age!) got stopped by the police, officer stood in the road to stop me, to let a car out he had been dealing with, but then waved me in! why have you got your (front) fog lights on sir ?, but then when he saw I was no spring chicken and the sight of my knobbly knees he said, oh its alright sir, its these boy racers who think its a fashion statement we are looking at! Did not dare tell him I only had them on as I was trying to bum off condensation on one of them as it has a crack in it!,...I think you can get 3 points for having fogs on when its not foggy ?

One of my pet hates. Good on them. I can never understand why people drive with fogs and side lights : I parked up once and tried it...the road just disappeared in front of me.

No ALL people that drive with fog lights on do it for ONE reason... They want to show off, they think they look cool. There's no other reason if its not foggy.

just put some blue tited side light bulbs in the fogs if you want lights down in your bumper.
my friend go 30 fine for his fogs, not sure if you can get points. I think it could possibly be classed as endangering other road users??

It's a 30 non endorsable fixed penaty offence, no points! Undue dazzle i think, never understood that though since fog lights point at the ground directly in front of you!!

It's the folk that sit parked in your lane facing you with headlights on that should be getting done with it!!!!

But you can generally say people driving with fogs on (unless visibility low) are idiots. The fine should be IQ based, the lower your IQ the higher the fine...

Why do you think they are idiots? Strange view to have on people just because they use fog lights. I'd say it was worse driving with only side lights on!

There are probably a whole load of things that are worse, i didnt mention driving with no arms while facing backwards either. Thats cause the thread was about fogs. Clearing a misted lens is a good reason IMO, trying to look cool isnt.

My view is that GENERALLY people driving with front fogs on when not required are idiots. They think it looks good, I dont. Even if no other member on here shares that view I do.

I can change my mind if I hear a good reason why someone needs to use them. I know of a really narrow dark country lane where a few drivers use fogs to light up the verges better because of animals running out. Good reason to use them, City streets ? Cant think of anything. Years ago only sporty / upmarket models had front fogs. People used them to say LOOK AT ME. I guess its stuck.
