    Default Air Con

I'm not sure my air is working, on all other cars I've had I hear a click when the compressor cuts in and the rev counter raises by 100 rpm briefly, on my car when I switch it on I hear the faintest of noises and the revs stay the same, also the cooled air doesn't seem that cool to me, what makes me think its faulty is during rain the car doesn't clear the windows very well with the air on, doesn't seem to be using extra fuel either, button illuminates, which wouldn't normally happen due to fault diag shutdown to protect the other parts.

I know the petrol ones 2002 do announce themselves when switched on, but is this the same with the diesels, or is it another trip to Dewhursts the master Vx butchers.

I also noticed that the feed pipe between grille and airbox wasn't pushed on making me suspect it's been played with already, and does anyone know if the fusebox in the hatchback well should have a cover on it, or is it uncovered as soon as you open the trim panel flap.

    Thx in advance

Mine does not make any noise when starting, but it does "cool" the car, might be worth a trip to vx incase you have a leak, what is it like when you put it on the coolest setting?.

sounds like it needs the gas recharging ,take to any air con specialist and they should recharge it for you

My (petrol V6) idle revs increase by ~100 rpm when the AC compressor is on. Also makes the air cold - perhaps check for that

I have not noticed if mine increases the idle speed, I would have thought it would because of the extra drag on the engine, I will check it next time the aircon is on.

Thx guys, I'm going to have to test it a bit more before I take it in to a dealers, it's the 1st one I've had that doesn't clear the windows on a wet night though, could need a pump up and indeed could have a leak, hoping it's going to get better because it really isn't up to scratch imo as it is, doesn't have the chilled air feeling or the smell after using it, needs a hot day to know for sure, so I guess I may just have to wait a couple of mths to know for sure.

Is there a specific service interval for the aircon, or do pepole leave it untill there is a problem with it.

I think most leave it until they realise it's not working. I had a right arseache with my dealer over non functioning air-con, resulting in a hire car and a days investigation and regas at their expense. This was after they bent my bonnett and attempted to rip me off, charging £180 to regas only.

I found a local top bloke who came to my house and did it all for me on the driveway for £50 all in! It only went back to the dealer as he thought there was a compressor problem. It works perfectly now.

Mine makes a slight "donk" noise when a/c switched on , revs do go up very slightly .

If your having problems with the car steaming up , have you changed the pollen filter , if this is slightly blocked it will be difficult to clear the windows .
