    Default Something strange happening

    Hi,

I am having an intermittent problem (or problems) with my 05 plate 2.2 Direct. Firstly, very occasionally on acceleration the car seems to mis a beat. Best comparisson I can make is back to when I had a plug fail on my very old astra. It is very occasional though. The spanner has been known to come on when this has happened but it doesn't appear to be storing any fault codes.

    Next

On a run down the A1 the other week this happened again, however, the spanner light went out after a few mins to be replaced by the emissions light. The car at this point started chugging, bit like having kangaroo petrol lol.

Stopped, restart engine, all is fine and NO stored fault code.

    Help!

Ps I have no EGR valve. The stealers removed it a while back when it had issues and it was replaced with a blanking plate

Hi Mate, sounds like you've had (or tried) to have the codes read. Was that by a pro or one of those chinese £35 code reading boxes?

Codes aside, an easy first attempt to fix it is to change the plugs.

Sorry mate, sounds like the High Pressure Fuel pump/regulator problem mate. Not cheap if out of warranty, although with all the fuss kicked off about it on Watchdog you may get a good deal.

Had the same problem, engine ticks over and seems to subtly miss a beat, easy to miss if you're not the observant type. But deffo - High Pressure Fuel pump / regulator is about to fail. When it fails you'll know. You'll loose all power and the car will coast a stop. If your in town you'll be ok, but if you're cruising or about to overtake on the motorway...very scary.

I had mine replaced under warranty, personally I think there should be a recall. It's the only real chink in what's considered to be a great engine.

Well, broke down on the A1 and had to be towed home (120 miles) by the AA! .

Fault codes are Cylinder 1 misfire, Cylinder 2 misfire. Diagnosed as Coil pack

Interesting, i had this at the weekend on mine, once when full throttle in third, and again full throttle in second on a slip road. feels like a misfire, but on both occasions power was fine afterward and no fault lights.

Don't fancy a motorway breakdown, will the stealers do anything to check the fuel pump with no stored code (car still in warranty and only done 23k!)

That's what i figured, no light=no problem to them. no toher check they could do, i.e. output pressure from the fuel pump?

If its the same as mine you will eventually get an spanner showing, which soon disappears to be replaced by emission light. Car will appear not to have stored any code (ie no spanner at ignition)
