    Default Rear spring removal

Don't know if I'm missing something but here goes...

Tried to remove the rear springs the other day to help while replacing rear arms, arb bushes etc.

Wheel off, supported car on frame, trolley jack under lower arm to take weight off suspension, jacked up to compress whilst applying spring compressors.....when I let the jack down nothing happened...ie couldn't get the spring off....

    What am I doing wrong?

You don't need spring compressors for a start. do what you were doing before with the trolley jack under the arm, but remove the bolt that holds it onto the hub (E18 torx socket). Now slowly let the jack down and remove it. Put your hand on top of the brake disc and push down, the spring will fall out.

Sorry for sounding stoopid...Would that be the bolt holding the lower control arm onto the hub?

Also, should I be marking the exact way the spring was held in before?

    Thanks in advance

Because the lower control arm will drop enough to let the spring be removed. On the fronts it's different and so they need to be compressed.

    Yep.

    No need.

So did you not remove the spring when you were trying to do the upper control arm? (I thought you said you had?). You'll definitely find the access to that inner bolt so much easier by removing the spring.

Not yet Duncan, no. We didn't manage to get the spring off so that's probably why we struggled so much with the control arm. We're gearing up for another crack on Sunday so I can go into this weekend armed with your good advice as always!
