search for a dell vostro on their site, decent value start at £199 - for business users, no crappy trial ware or limited use software.
Are you bothered what O/S it has? Some of the cheaper ultra lightweight ones come pre-installed with a flavour of Linux. OR you pay a little more for the exact same model but with Windows Vista on them.

might hang out till then if this old one of mine will keep going till then but its getting worse 5 or 6 attempts to start up and resetting of time etc
could easily be laptop is about 5 years old was a good one at the time cost me £1000 so if anyones got any ideas so i can keep it going for a while longer there all happily accepted
Replace the CMOS Battery, then go to add/remove programs and remove any program that you haven't used in ages or unlikely to use. This will free up room and stop those programs from using up memory on startup.
Do the usual defrag of the hard drive.
If you have the windows disc and your not bothered about work on the laptop or can remove the info you need to a DVD or USB stick etc, then reinstall a fresh copy of the operating system and drivers as you'll notice a dramatic speed increase after 5 years.
Other than adding more memory, that's about your limit till you get another
or do a clean install of Ubuntu, brings fresh life to old computers.
