search for a dell vostro on their site, decent value start at £199 - for business users, no crappy trial ware or limited use software.

Are you bothered what O/S it has? Some of the cheaper ultra lightweight ones come pre-installed with a flavour of Linux. OR you pay a little more for the exact same model but with Windows Vista on them.

Bearing in mind what ever you purchase will have out of date windows should you go down that road come August. Thats if MS launch the new Windows 7 as announced.

The reseting the time will probably due to a dead CMOS battery. They look like a large watch battery. If dead, your laptop won't hold the time when switched off

Replace the CMOS Battery, then go to add/remove programs and remove any program that you haven't used in ages or unlikely to use. This will free up room and stop those programs from using up memory on startup.

Do the usual defrag of the hard drive.

If you have the windows disc and your not bothered about work on the laptop or can remove the info you need to a DVD or USB stick etc, then reinstall a fresh copy of the operating system and drivers as you'll notice a dramatic speed increase after 5 years.

Other than adding more memory, that's about your limit till you get another
