Default Energy Bills What A Joke

Just got my quartely bill, £450 granted I have economy 7 but even so I cannot believe the amount this bill is given the fact I'm only running 50% of my radiators.

I've tried the uswitch site and it doesn't want to give me a result, moneysupermarket gives results but to really save it's online which I just won't do, or the cheaper companies that offer a projected saving of around £250 pa have such lousy ratings for customer services I wonder if it's worth switching at all.

Have been at home now all through this cold spell with the heating on sometimes 24 hours. Not looking forward the gas bill coming through the letterbox at the end of the quarter..

I dont have the telephone number but if you look online for a company called

    Utility Warehouse

    there VERY cheap

BG charged me £120 a month for gas, and £60 for electric

I called UW and they said they would beat the price no matter what

I'm now paying £104 a month for both gas and electric combined, and if your on a BT line, they guarantee to beat your telephone package aswell

Na, gas bill is non existant tbh as all I have on gas is the hob right now, the bill is my electric bill on economy 7.

Up side is I don't get a gas bill, don't need an £100 boiler inspection every year, and the house stays a lot warmer in relation to GCH for the time it provides heat.

Downside is the huge bills I get, even the summer one was over £200, gonna do a survey to try and pinpoint if it's the computer using it all up when left on idle.

Its the storage heaters mate. They are very poor at doing their job of heating. Had them in my first house until I got the first bill! Changed to gas central heating and never looked back. Bills dropped from around £120 a month to £40 and that was 10 years ago. I know that it is not possible for for certain reasons but once you go to a gas combi boiler you never look back. How "Economy 7" was ever allowed to to use the word "Economy" I will never know. Most expensive way of heating your house I know. U would better off building your own nuclear power station as it would be cheaper!

We've gas, and with some careful meter readings, we've discovered it's cheaper to run the heating 24/7 using the thermostat set that 20C, than it was running it 4 hours a day without the thermostat.

We were running the heat 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, but when I came home in the evening the house was freezing even with the heat on for 30 mins before I arrived. Now with the heat set to run on the thermostat, the house never really cools down as much and the heat only trips in and out every few hours for 15 mins. Also means you don't wake up freezing cold at 5am.

Doesn't really help you VV, but may help anyone else who thinks running their heat 3 or 4 hours a day is cheaper than running it at a lower setting all day.

We have economy 7 in as well, but it does the whole house - between 1am and 8am it's cheaper, so we have the washing machine, drier and dishwasher all on timers to run during the night. Rather burn 6kW on cheap rate at night.
