Squealing Signum

My wife's just phoned me to say her Signum has started making a noise whilst she was driving during her lunch break today. She describes it as a continuous metallic squealing noise that appears whenever she turns right, i.e. the car is leaning to the left. It's happening in sharp corners and gentle bends, and at low speeds and high speeds. Seems to be coming from the front n/s wheel, but she's not sure and it could be the rear n/s.

Any pointers, so I can minimise the amount of time I'm sitting in the rain/snow/dark this evening crouched over the wheel hub? All I can think of at the moment is that it might be a stone (grit?) trapped against the disk shield.

Given the symptoms you've described, the first thing I'd be looking is what you've said - a stone caught between the caliper/dust guard and the disc.

Anyone ever had their car make this kinda noise because of a stone trapped under the spring?

I haven't. I've had that noise on mine and it was a stone trapped as above.

nope as Duncan said its usually something trapped betwwen the dustshield and the disc ...ive had this several times

If I'd fitted the 314's when I got them, the disk shield would have been discarded by now and the car wouldn't be squealing...

must be loud though, to hear it from inside the car with the windows up/radio on etc?

Yep, it's a horrible loud screeching noise - like a metal gauntlet being dragged down a blackboard! lol
