Default Pug 306 HDI Q-SOMEONE MAY KNOW

    Guy's,

My brother is looking at getting and motor and has seen an S-reg 306 HDI.

Its got decent miles on it and has been well looked after (current owner for last 4+ years), the only thing is, we have been told that after driving for a short while, it cuts out and dies.

Im assuming this is when its warmed up??

I dont know anything more as yet and have asked my brother to find out.

I thought I would ask the question as someone on here may know, or know of someone who has had a similar problem.

    Also, what's it worth??

    Thanks in Advance!!!

    Bye bye Vec B

What question's to I need to ask to try and pinpoint the problem?

I doubt a test drive would be enough for me to get it clonk out on so would have to rely on the seller's honesty, and that shouldnt be a problem as my dad has known them for years on end!

Not very much, probably £200 tops, as for the fault it could be many a thing, but to keep it cheap I'd flush the oil, change the air and diesel filters, and check any breather hoses for blockages, after that a few hours labour in a garage is gonna make it uneconomical to repair.

A common problem on the HDI for cutting out is the fuel lift pump strainer!!

It has to be removed from the fuel tank and cleaned!!

£200 for a HDI 306 = yes please...these are still making good money to be fair as insurance is cheap also they fall into the cheap taxation bracket..

As for faults the strainer is an issue but with the fault being described i have seen this a few times the fuell pressure sensor fails on the odd occasion causing a drop in pressure under load hense cutting out...although you say it does idle...will it take the throttle?

I just went on it being 11 years old in a failing market tbh, and it's 50% more than I'd pay for a Pug anyway.

Is that MLC I hear coming this way?
