I see everyone is fitting the k&n panel filters & not induction kits. Is there much of a difference between them or is it just because the induction kit costs more?

i think after tests, the difference in power was 1 bhp, so unless you like the sound and throwing away money then the panel filter is better value
Hi Matt,
to add to chunksters post, the common belief is that an induction kit is open to the engine bay, thereby soaking up all the hot air, whereas a panel filter with som minor mods to the induction box will give the same power and better induction temp.
i know my old cav had an induction kit (pipercross) and would sometimes stall in traffic due to heat soak. However with proper inductiong piping once moving with a good cold air feed the induction kit may give better figures as this near impossible to measure on a rolling road.
The concensus on other sites do agree however, (such as Astra-Sport) that the panel filter with modded airbox is better for a turboed car due to the heat generated by the turbo.
Cyb, has had a Viper induction kit on his 2.2 with great success. The cone wasn't open to the engine bay and it looked sweet.
ITG foam panel filters are another good option, Machine washable and apparently better than K&N.

Hi, I have a Pipercross Cold Air feed (viper) and iam very happy with that. Feels a little smoother and sounds great. MPG also has improved.
Thanks guys for all your replies
I had a powerflow induction kit on my 1.8LS and it wasn't noisey and with a chrome piece of flexi-pipe (like an tumble dryer hose only chrome) it get a really good cold air feed and cuts out 90% of engine heat...I loved it and it looked fantastic..
