Default Can someone recommend a van?

As I've mentioned here before, I do a bit of work as a sound engineer (small concerts etc) and am gradually collecting up a lot of my own equipment. In the past I've transported it about in my vec but that's becoming more and more difficult due to the size of the stuff. Plus, I'm worried about damaging my precious interior!

I've decided to buy a small a cheap van to transport my gear and also to use as a runaround, to get me to work etc and avoid running up the mileage on my vec.

I don't make any money out of my audio work, so can't afford to spend too much. I want something which I can work on myself, likely an old banger which I can also have as a project.

I want to get as good fuel economy as possible, so anything too tall is out of the question straight away. So far I've thought about car-type vans like the Astravan, Combi, Ford Escort. The Transit Connect would be nice, but a bit too pricey for me I think.

Anyone got a recommendation for me? My only experience with vans in the past is company Sprinters, LWB Transits etc, which are way too big for me now.

    Cheers.

Astra-van. Stay away from anything French, especially Peugeot Partners. Appaling things

You're lucky then. They are garbage. We have a fleet of them and can't wait until their lease is up. They are NEVER out of my workshop

Perhaps it's more of a case of you being unlucky. We had a fleet of them over a five year period and not one of them broke down

Well yea, that could well be the case but you can only speak as you find and we have a multitude of different vans and cars as lease vehicles, and anything French is an absolute nightmare and most definately the bulk of the work in our workshop. I for one would never ever spend my own money on a french vehicle. That is my personal opinion obviously, as I said, we can only speak as we find and you seem to have had good service from yours. Personal perceptions.....
