    Default found out something today

my traction control does work, half way up a hill and i got stuck,my car was going no where, after the second attempt some people came out and gave me a push, even then i struggled, lucky there was a turning and i knew where it went.

oh and 18" tyres are crap in this situation, xarswith less power and smaller tyres had no problems, does anyone know if i can fit 15" wheels off a vectra b on the front while the road conditions stay as they are? the brakes are standard not the bigger 302 or 315mm discs

Sounds very radical m8 if it were legal.

Excuse me for being dumb, but I always thought traction control was supposed to stop wheels spinning. So if you got stuck, why would that show that your traction control was working?
By the way why would changing to smaller/narrower wheels be illegal? As long as both tyres/wheels on either front or rear axle are the same there is no problem.

the problem was the traction control killed the power, well it did till tc and abs lights came on and i had no tc then, and i still could not get up that hill, and it is the only way out, luckily some people who live there gave me a push and i got up the hill, never knew you could get an indicated 50mph in 1st out of a 1.9 cdti

That is crap, what is the point of t/c. I know what you mean as I had probleems parking the other day. I could not reverse into the parking bay as it was on a hill. Absolute nightmare.

If you can't get ANY grip then haw is traction control gonna help?

I saw an M3 going nowhere the other day, after it stopped at the office gate to swipe its pass and then couldn't get going on the most slightest of inclines. Had to roll back and take a running pass!

the problem with traction control it will only realy work on a split surface (slippy/grippy) and not on a completly slippy surface,a LSD would also be in the same boat,as the vectra system does not seem to brake a wheel that is slipping it just cuts the power, well it does till the ecu shuts itself down then you have no traction control or abs

Yep, my old Mk4 Astra with TC would get totally stuck with no engine power. The Mk5 with TC/ESP+ could reverse up a bank with one front wheel 2' off the ground (it was a steep bank I was parking on at a rally stage).
