Eek Need to replace all 4 springs - HELP!

Just had my 03 1.8 Elite serviced at the main dealer as itís LPG.

They have informed me that I need to have all four suspension springs replaced as the front and rear nearside springs have snapped without me noticing.

This sounds like a very common problem (64% of poll) and at a cost of £580 I'm not keen to replace them with Vauxhall bits as they clearly don't last.

As the handling on the Elite was ropey before, can I get away with a better quality set of springs instead (Eibach/Jamex...)? If so, any suggestions would be fantastic please!

I have done a search on this excellent forum but I have to admit that there is so much info that I am completely lost -Any help would be very much appreciated so I can get back to commuting.

    Cheers

Mattolly86 - thanks for the offer of help, I've managed to find some to do the work but just need to know what to get him to fit:

Had a look at LMF (approx prices):

Apex set of springs - £100
    http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/p...at=2286&page=1

    Eibach springs - £170
    http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/p...at=2286&page=1

    Jamex Springs - £80
    http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/p...at=2286&page=1

    Spax springs - £115
    http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/p...at=2286&page=2

Or go the whole hog and replace the shocks as well for £270:

I am not a boy racer, but just thought that if I was replacing the springs a better quality set with improved handling would be nice.

Thanks for the help so far - kepp the responses coming PLEASE!

Bilstein B4 shocks £170 and Eibachs for £140. You'll never need to worry about suspension again!

Thanks again for all the responses. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for the Eibachs -why are they better than the rest?

Although the B4/Eibach system would be the ultimate solution I think I'm going to havew to calm down as I have to replace teh front pads&discs aswell - current economic climate and all that!

Just to double check - can I put lowering spring (like the Eibachs) onto the standard elite shocks without any other components?

Having never lowered a car before is there anything that I should look out for or replace at the same time?

Thanks again for all your time!!

Yeah springs with standard dampers will be fine! Just replace them when they were with bilsteins.

Eibach springs are very good quality and don't give a harsh bouncy feeling that some other springs do!

I got mine from 888 engineering sure they were £140

You can, but you won't get the best effect compared to fitting uprated dampers. You can still get a 'double bounce' due to the softer damper.

To get the best result you want to fit a matched set of springs and dampers. I fitted the Irmscher kit to my Signum Elite and it completely transformed the car.
