Default UK Cold snap - how are the Vectra's coping?

I saw the news the other day and it looks quite miserable in the UK - tons of snow, something like six million people not going to work. How are the Vectras coping with this weather?

Here in Oz we are the opposite - we are going through a heat wave. We've just had several consecutive days over 45 degrees c and now it's in the high 30s. I was a bit freaked when I got into my Vectra and saw the temp. display showing 46!! Anyway, the old Vectra wasn't too bothered by the extremely hot weather and managed to run fine. Can't say as much for the public transport system as all trains stopped running for about 12 hours!!.

Mine doesn't like the snow, the tyres are too wide it just seems to float on the surface with no real traction. Apart from that, its fine!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I had a nightmare yesterday. The roads on my way to work had become slushy and frozen and I took 25 minutes to get up a hill which would normally take 2 minutes The trouble was that there was so little traction, you couldn't get any momentum. As soon as you went to get it going, the traction control would kick in and you'd stop. It meant going up in 30cm journeys. Other cars were merrily wheelspinning up the road past me whilst I just sat there.

    Not great.

Does the special winter mode button (has a * on the button) for the auotmatic transmisson help in any way? I think it's supposed to keep the auto gear box in 4th for better traction. The last time it snowed in Melbourne was in 1984!

My Signum is doing just fine. Made it in this morning with no real issues. Am begining to wonder if my TC actually works. The light flashes but the wheels still spin lots???

Any other Signum drivers having the same issues?

Sounds like the traction control isn't doing what it is supposed to do! I took my wife's M3 BMW to the snow last year and it was gripping like it was on rails!

Edit: Seems liks us 'Aussies' have a problem with our grammer- Vectras not Vectra's!!

We're all idiots and run summer tyres all year. Something like 4% of UK motorists use winter tyres.

So other than the lack of grip, we generally do OK.

The cars that seem to get stuck are BMWs, Saabs and Vectras. I got stuck this morning then a Pug 307 flew past me showing now problems of grip.
