Default Why are 225 45 18 tyres so expensive..

well i seem to be having problems finding some tyres for the 11 spokes, was going to get some 225 40 18 but been told they would look stupid and that the proper tyres for these rims are 225 45 18,for the veccy c. what a difference in price per tyre!! even some budget chingchongwongfumanchu jobbies are a fortune!!
    anybody any ideas?

They're expensive 'cos they aren't a common size, while the 225/40/18 is a more common size. It's like the 215/50/17 compared to the 225/45/17. The first size is not as common and so less choice/more expensive.

As for the 225/40/18 looking stupid. Don't who said that to you but I beg to differ.

All with 225/40/18 on. The last two pics were the Dunlops that came with the wheels, the top pic the Michelin PS2 that I then changed them to - but all 225/40/18.

I don't think they look daft - but you can make your own opinion from those.

my problem is that only 2 of the tyres need changing,so do i have 45"s on the rear and get some 40"s on the front and have it looking like something out of the wacky races cartoon dragster style, or bend over and take it up the "council gritter" for some more 45"s
    ????????????

I personally would go for the 225/40/r18 if i were you.

I have 225/45 on mine but prefer the 40's. I was going to change to the 40 profile as i need a tyre but the other 3 still have life left so going for a budget 45 for now then change the set to 40's when the other 3 are needing done.

I have a chance of a set of 19"s in a month or 2 for a silly price so dont want to spend too much on tyres that may not be on for a while.

It'll be fine. I honestly don't think you'll be able to tell. Ask anyone who's gone from 215/50 to 225/45
