Default Service and lost drivers license

My car is booked in for a service tomorrow morning (thursday) and i have booked a courtesy car, the lady on the phone was very helpful and asked me to bring in my drivers license for the courtesy car.

Problem being, since the kind police service returned my license after i paid them to put a few points on, i was really lazy and didn't put it away straight away, it sat on my desk for a while, and now i can only find the photocard part, and can't find the paper counterpart.

Will vaux be alright with just the card, or will they need both parts? Its obviously too late to phone them now, and i've looked everywhere for it, so can't see it turning up in time, it will no doubt turn up first thing friday morning when its too late.

They should be able to call DVLA and verify your details over the phone, as do many hire places - I've done it this way when a car broke down ans I was supplied with a hire car there and then without any documents on me.

Not sure if all garages are the same about this, but I know that when mine went in last month, they looked at both parts before handing over the courtesy 'shed'. I am guessing they want to check your driving history/points etc.

Should ok with the card part, but if they have any problems there is a phone that they can contact the Dvla with to confirm your details which will require you to speak to the dvla at time of picking up the loan car, so you can give permison for dvla to confirm licence number, entiltement & points as applicable

Cheers guys, i hope i can sort this as i travel a bit further afield than normal to get a better service than at my local muppets. Don't wanna be stranded with no way of getting home. Mind you, i suppose i could always pass the time taking test drives in the vxr range.

As above, they can ring DVLA but will probably charge you for it as it's a premium call (iirc). Some dealers (unfortunately) will just point blank refuse if you haven't got the paper bit - and won't do the DVLA thing.

I guess the best thing is ring them before you head in to see where you stand.

Haha, Mrs D, you bring back a few memories there with your shed comment, I had this loan car for a day from Picador Sholing (good dealer btw) it was a Volvo 245 or something similar, the old mans wedge thingy anyway, it wouldn't do more than 45 mph and the whole thing felt like a rickshaw, another dealer gave me a Hyundi Sonata complete with beige and dirt interior and sunburn effect paintwork on the bottom, laquer cancer.
