Default New guy from vvoc saying Hi, and a 1.9 CDTi question!

    Hi guys,

Well some of you may know me, i'm Mike, AKA MCD NW rep on vvoc. Well, its finally happened, ive sold my 3.0 GSI and its time to come to diesels!

    I need your help please!

I want an Vectra C, SRi estate, but confused between the 1.9s versions. Ive seen 120 & 150 versions. Ideally, being me i want the 150. But ive seen a 120 estate, 6 speed, which is gorgeous!

I was wondering if anyone can please clarify how much different the two engines are? I will defo be looking at a rempa of some sort, is that all thats different?

Also, please could you please point me in the right direction of the correct performance figures?

Finally, how much difference in mpg between the 3.0 diesel & 1.9? I kind of like the idea of a V6 diesel, but are they that much better than the 1.9?

Cheers, and Hi! Expect to see me around quite alot!

    Mike

The main difference between the 150 and the 120 is of course the bhp (150bhp and 120bhp) but with this come the torque, obviously the 150 has more torque as well. I test drove both of them and i could certainly tell the difference. If you remap a 120 it will take it to the same power output (approx) as the 150. But people on here have had their 150's near to 190bhp or higher when remapped.

I'll leave the 3.0 V6 diesel talks up to someone with the engine. Can't remember the bhp figures, i think they are about 170 ish ( don't hold me to that though)

    Hope this helps mate.

Right, the 1.9 120 and 150 are different engines. The 120 is 8V the 150 is 16v. The 150 remaps to 180-200ish bhp, the 120 gets around 165bhp.

The 120 is the more reliable of the two as the 150 is one of two things, very good or very very bad.

The 3.0V6 is the smoothest of the 3, seems to be the most reliable but it doesn't like remaps - well the Z30DT doesn't. The Y30DT seems a bit better. The 3.0 is much smoother and a lot quieter than the 4 pots, but doesn't feel as quick as you don't feel the power come in like you do in the 1.9's.

MPG, I believe the 1.9's will give 40-55mpg where the 3.0 gives 30-45mpg. My 3.0 gets around 42 on a motorway and 34 in town.

    HTH

Now I need a turbo to keep up!

We have had the 120 Estate and its a bit under powered to be honest. Loads of room in it, think it has/had the biggest load space in its class. It was amazing what we got in the back!
The 120 is 8v while the 150 is 16v and the extra 30ps does make a difference. You can put a tuning box on the 120 to improve it but then you would get even more from the 150 by doing the same

Check the rear suspension arms as they do seem to wear quicker on the estate.

    Thanks guys!

Im confused by this! This is the car i like

    http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...leRegLetter=05

Dealer said on phone it was a 150.... but the web search on the plate says its a 120! If its that, then its out! I think id much rather even a 3.0... cant come down that far from what im used too!

It sounds like the mpg on the 3.0 diesel could still be double my petrol V6.... just i fancied the 1.9 as i heard it could be re-maped to close on 200bhp!

The other thing im looking at 80000-10000milers.... fully service vehicles... should there be any issues?

Cheers, big learning curve for me this one!

    Mike

Dont go by the Web search as there have been many errors on V5's. Confirm with the seller but from the pics you can see it has red CDTI which should mean its a 150. Get them to send you a pic of the engine to confirm it.

easiest way to tell between the 1.9's is that the 150 bhp version has a red TI badge on the boot
