    Question Driving in snow

Do you find that your Vec has bad handling in the snow?

I ask, as i worked from home today, as i was snowed in. When it stopped snowing i dug the car out (literally) and cleared the driveway. Then i attempted to drive to Tesco's for some supplies....

But with all the wheel spinning and sliding, it wasn't a nice experience!
I must admit that this Estate has no TC etc, wheras my previous one did.
It sticks to the road like glue in the dry (and wet), but in the snow.... It is not good at all.

I think it's because the tyres are too wide and it just slides.

What's you opinion of the handling / drive in snow?

P.S. The snow was around 4" deep and i was driving (attempting too) at around 5mph.

    Cheers.

Gotta say mine was fine this morning when I took the kids to school [and then turned right round and went straight back and got them back again due to the weather turning for the worst!].

Using the * button on the autobox helped when pulling away in the snow and I used the sequential manual to control the car's speed. Didn't lock up once , except for when I got home on the drive and nearly stuffed it though the garage door! [Drive is on a slope!]

Very little wheelspin at all [only a bit when pulling away with full lock on] and the rest of the time steady as she goes.

Would much rather drive on snow than on say icy roads . Don't seem to have a problem with my GSi auto. Have always found front wheel drive cars to be OK in today's conditions but worst one ever was a rear wheel drive Volvo estate with an auto box .

Driving in snow was fine, but braking in snow was a nightmare.

It appears to be a VERY lame ABS system they fitted to my 02 Club as when I tried to turn right and hit a patch of compressed snow and just carried on straight, the ABS got very confused and tried for about a second then just gave up and let me skid to a halt

And before I get accused of speeding and needing to slow down, I was doing 5mph at most

My first vectra got written off in the snow last time it was really bad (2006) and has really put me off driving in the snow at all.

Was taking it easy to work this morning. No traction whatsoever, but i've found this with any car i've driven.

Ive got to say i was very impressed with the vectra today.

I had to drive on ungritted compacted snow/ice roads up and down hills..

The T/C was a dream and if it wasnt for that there is one hill i would of never of got up!!

    Overall im very impressed!

Just goes to show that the pre-facelift Vec - C' s came with better safety features (AS STANDARD), as opposed to having to specify TC and EPS etc!
