Thought this had been common knowledge for a while? I know More Than tried to screw my Dad for an extra £100 on his Xantia just because he had a towbar fitted, phoned the post office insurance, they were £10 cheaper and had no objections to his Tow bar.

Always the same with any insurance they'll do anything they can to weedle out of paying up!

If a towbar is classed as a modification does this mean that my 67 year old mother is driving a modified car!!. I thought the bass was wound up fully on the wireless!!!. Her's is insured with Zurich and it is a no cost modification but they do note it. Mine is with Norwich Union and they don't recognise it as a mod, however it was a foreign call centre and the person on the other end spend ages looking for a tool box on her list!!

i think because my car comes up as an 'sri nav' when getting information from the RAC website, its taken as read when you insure it, that the car has sat nav as a factory specification.

some cars like bmw's it was an option when new to have the nav unit fitted and wont (under normal circumstances) show up when you put it into the RAC data checker.
