    Default Broken Spring

    Guys,

    just the heads up...

I have just had a broken front offside spring happen. Broken part left in the spring mount plate, the rest dropped over the plate and left dangling by the tyre (photo's are available!). Started car up Monday morning and front offside tyre exploded. By the time I got the wheel off and saw the holes in the tyre I realised something was amiss!! Spoke to dealer but they were too busy to repair and asked me to talk to other dealers. I then had to arrange collection/recovery of the car (£125). Dealer rang me today to say that no parts in the country (part # 93177826 for pair of springs) and would be coming from Germany..... By the way all the front suspension was replaced last October by my dealer (yes the busy one.).

To cut a long story short I have a holiday booked for Saturday taking my caravan (sorry guys but I am one of the quicker ones - 3.0 CDTi with extra oomph) and now nothing to pull it with. Suffice to say I rang Vauxhal Customer Care as recommended by the dealer and NOTHING. Oh, they raised me a case # and I advised them how urgent it was but nobody rang. Gave then 3 hours and chased. Apparently they can do nothing until the case managers pick up the case.... Any way promised somebody would ring but 1 1/2 hours later still nothing.

Is this normal??? Any advise on how to expedite this problem??

Any ideas for any other course of action?? I have Bill Parfitt's name (Vauxhall MD), is it worth starting there and working my way down.

    All thoughts gratefully received.

    Ianh

Bluddy hell mate!! I would be kicking up a massive stink about fitness for purpose, what might have happened if it happened on the motorway etc. I have experienced the Vx so called customer care before and they are useless. Keep pushing for someone senior to sort the problem. Do it now before they go home. Also try E-mailing Bill Parfitt directly.

Hope they get you sorted mate, let us know.

I think you can get virtually any part within 24hours, but you will pay though the nose for it, then you have to find someone to fit it.

I wore the clutch out on my old car within two months (off-roading) and managed to get it replace overnight by some friends who owned a garage. I got the car to them at 17:00 hours and it was on my drive when i woke up in the morning 09:00 hours, my parents never knew so was never punished.

They got someone to drive from the parts depot (last orders of the day) to bring the clutch. they got it at 03:30, fitted it and only charge for the part - service!
