Default Cam belt and service - Good price I think...

I rang a garage close to me that was listed on that Good Garage website.

    He quoted me:

    Cambelt - £31.40 + VAT
If I want tensioners another £70
    Fitting would be about £135

Service - £135, although I had one done in June so may not need one yet.

I think with 128k on the clock, the belt and tensioners are a must.

    What do ya reckon?

Why do you need a service or cambelt done now? I would have the job done together all in one hit but only when the sevice or belt is due...

Its never had the belt changed AFAIK so with 128k on the clock I figured it was about due a new one? Correct me if I am wrong though

I will probably do the service as well, as the last service was only a light one, I never had the fuel filter changed etc, only the oil and air filter.

If it were me I'd go for it including fuel filter, peace of mind goes a long way & at a good price. If you get the service done etc ask about the fuel filter condition when you pick the motor up. You may be surprised at the answer..

Think about it, what’s a filter for? We all change the oil & air, like I say just ask the question. Changed mine when I changed the car it was, how can I say, needed changing..

You never change a timing belt without changing the tensioner its a recipe for disaster!

Im a bit worried as to why he is asking you if you want tensioners, in my experience a timing belt is always supplied as a kit which includes belt and tensioner. I think he might not want to change the tensioner and wants to charge you more as it means more work and a harder job for him!

I have to agree, looks like they phoned parts and asked for those specific parts
A cambelt kit makes more sense, saves about 25%
The labour rate looks acceptable, and the all-in costs look about the same as main dealer, at about £250 for service including cambelt

If in doubt get it done ASAP
Depending on your mileage, then just get the cambelt only
However, if you are close to having done near to the next service interval you may as well get it done as well

My car is on 2 year / 30K mile service intervals, but mine gets a service every 9 months due to the mileage I do!
