    Default Black car woe's

People with black cars here may feel my pain!

Car is an 06 Vectra with 40K. I wash it every week and polish it weather permitting at least twice a month.

Want more though! To be honest, the paint may not be the best and needs a good clay/polish/wax. It has a lot of swirl marks when you look closely, and a couple of deep scratches

I was thinking of taking it to a pro car detailer and just keeping on top of it when it was done but was wondering at the possibility of doing it myself.

I have just bought a Meguirs clay kit. I also have a small Karcher pressure washer. So apart from this assume I have NO gear and I will start again and throw the old stuff out.

I am looking for advice for wash cloths/sponges, drying kit, shampoo, polish (or whatever) to get rid of the swirls and a nice wax to keep it shiny for more than 5 minutes (it is black!!!!).

I'm no millionaire, so can't afford £150 wax's or anything. The only machine polisher I have is a Halfords jobbie which was fine for what I needed it for. Can't really afford another one.

If there are any pro detailers reading this near Middlewich in Cheshire, can you PM me with a quote please.

I know this is a long one and a lot to ask, apologies for that!! I would just love to get my car to the kind of standards that makes people gawp!!

PS, elbow grease is no probs! I DO have that!!

    Cheers guys!

Get a wash mitt, tesco sell one thats very good. i have it and use it all the time. i also have a separate sponge for the wheels, its a silicon free one so shouldnt scratch and whatever else is bad about sponges lol. Shampoo is use autoglym, polish has to be super resin polish. Also in tesco they have some polishing cloths that a pretty good and they have polishing pads, good stuff. get some microfibre cloths as well. I recently decided to try a new wax i found on ebay, its called boora. dont know if anyone else has tried it but i think its really good, i costs about £8 with delivery or check out their website here

Hiya Matt8, I`m the same as you mate a black one, looks beautifull for 30 mins then a grey mist forms over it! I did mine with good old Tcut, then the 3 packs of Meguires, it really is good & easy to use, at about £20 for the 3 pack. I`m gonna get a clay bar for the spring time big car cleaning session, as so many of the guys on here say it makes a vast improvement to the end result, but look at the threads on detailing for more info, good luck buddy & power to the elbow

Aye, another reason for having one arm bigger than the other LOL. Gonna go on the Meguires site tomorrow and have a looksie!

May get another option but the T-cut though as a lot of people here don't like it!!

    What's the Meguires altenative anyone?

Must admit its old school cleaning product, seems to leave a film on the paintwork prior to the polish, I`m like you, come on chaps bring us up to date on the stuff to use. prior to polish!

get your self some some compounds and try some paint correction your self. better than spending out £150+ to get it done once. the a nice glaze and follow it up with a Good wax.

My car was clayed a few days before show season, it made a very nice difference. Well worth spending the time as long as your going to follow it up with a sealant or at least a polish and wax.
