    Default Simota or K&N

I have been thinking of buying a cone type filter for ages. K&N have just started making them so for me it was a no brainer as I have had them before and have been waiting for them to put up the goods. Then I saw these Simota jobbies while looking around the the 'net. Now, coz I'm picky, I don't know what to do!!

The Simota ones look amazing and I hear they are a bit quieter than the K&N's.

To the guys who have fitted the Simota filter, do you notice and gains and how noisy are they?

Has anybody else fitted a K&N yet, if so how is it?

    Cheers,
    Matt

I've got the standard K&N pannel and there is no increase in noise ,, from past expreience the cone filters are very loud,

The Simota filter looks pretty sexy

It would be the Cone K&N I would be going for. They haven't been making them long.

That's why I'm asking for a comparison. I have had K&N cone filters before on various cars and I swear by them, but they ARE noisy!!

Got my terminology wrong. I'm talking of Induction kits rather than filters!

Is the K&N one an open induction kit, or a closed unit such as the Apolo one they make?

I've got the Simota on mine, and I'm quite impressed with it so far (even though it is designed to fit the Astra)

The K&N is the 57i. Just the normal K&N. It's the only one they make for the CDTi just now that I can find and that took some 5 years!!

What does the Simota one sound like? Nice and subtle or K&N "check me out"?

I have a 57i on mine and there is a fair amount of noise in low revs but as soon as you get into the higher revs all you really hear is a slight hgh pitched whistle but only when acelerating. When staying at a constant speed its vertually silent and I have noticed a good power difference.
    Hope this helps

Compaired to a normal induction kit, it's quiet.

This is it running on an Astra

OK, reckon I'll just go for the K&N first off. Cheers Alex.

Unfotunatly I can't get youtube as I am on the ship and certain sites cannot be accessed. Shame, as I would have liked to hear the Simota.

But, the K&N can be bought off Flea-bay for less than £80, so if it is TOO loud, I'll sell it and get the Simota.

Guess the wife/kids will just have to get used to it LOL!!

    Cheers chaps!
