Default Anyone know anything about Corsa 1.2`s?

Going to look at an 02 , 1.2 club tomorrow for my new job. Its done 64k and is suppose to have a full service history. Apart from looking for a cam belt change, possibly water pump, clutch, checking the oil to see if its like crap, testing the clutch and brakes ,and listening for knocks etc., can anyone suggest anything else?
What mileage should the belt be changed on a 1.2 Corsa?
    Any common faults?

    Vehicle : Insignia

check the gear linkages/gearbox braketry, supposedly it is a common fault. Went in mines and i had to start off in 3rd gear as 1st and 2nd only worked when they wanted.

The sign is when putting it into gear it is really notchy, tho dont get me wrong most vx are like that but it is really bad in the case of the Corsa 1.2 SXi.

thanks will look out for that, bound to be the same box & link as the sxi on the club, although I would have thought it would have showed itself by 64k?

Belt in a 1.2 should never be changed, as it's a chain.

Only thing I can think of to check is the power steering - make sure it goes lock to lock with no wheezing or grinding noises, and should be free both directions. If it's harder to turn it left or right then the steering rack is on it's way out. Otherwise there's little to go wrong on those. Around 04 there was a problem with the chain tensioners, but that was fixed under recall.

I had one - a 1.2 SXi I bought new in 2004. Ran it 18 months/22k. Brilliant wee car, dropped it 30mm on Eibachs, debadged etc. Only thing I found was it was a bit feeble on the motorway, which I was doing a fair bit of towards the end. Great round the town though.

Actually, here's a wee pic of it:

Yep just as Gazza says, check it goes into gear nice and smoothly, if it's difficult or 'not quite right', get them to renew the linkage as a condition of sale

I was looking for one of these for my daughter and was told by varios delaers that the 1.2 Corsa suffers with the management light coming on alot due to sensors failing quite alot and the injection issues. More so as the miles creep up
