    Default What Constitutes A Service?

If you book your car in for service chances are all you get for £150 is 5 litres of oil and a filter.

Me I like to every 10k, do flush, filters and brakes.

What a rip servicing really is, my new jam jar got an oil change as a full service before I bought it, I'm gonna change all filters and give it proper GM oil soon.

If you run a Dti, and its sluggy, change the derv filter 1st and if its still sluggy you need a new airflow meter.

I totally agree that VX servicing is a total rip off. Less than £30 retail (clearly VX have a margin on this) for the long life oil and a filter. The other things that get 'checked' (and do they really???) anyone with one eye can do.

What do you get, well you get to give them money that's about it. If lucky they may have damaged something.

The last time I had a warrenty enforced service done on the omega, it cost £150, this is what was supposed to be done for it

    1 - Oil & Filter changed

    2 - Remote batteries changed

    3 - Grease hinges

4 - Check and adjust handbrake if required

    5 -Tyre Pressures check

    6 - Screenwash top up

    7 - Suspension check

    8 - Pollen Filter

Now here's the best bit, when i got it back, there was no grease on the hinges anywhere, the handbrake was still in the air, and one remote worked better than the other.

When i questioned it, I was told the "technician" regarded the handbrake as within tollerance, last notch and creeping I replied, then he rather begrudgingly took it back in and adjusted one side for effect.

I like to do my own servicing, for £50 I can replace this lot on the trade card

    1 - 10/40 semi oil and filter

    2 - Sump ring

    3 - Air/Pollen/Fuel filters

    4 - Spark plugs

    5 - Flush and reconditioner

    6 - Screenwash

7 - Brake pads all round

and adjust my own bloomin handbrake to 3 notches where it ought to be.

In terms of looking after the car, doesn't my service add up to a lot more than Vx's.

Just to really upset you mechanic would have got 1.2 hrs (72 mins), probably did it in halt the time, even with doing everything on the service sheet. Use to work in a vauxhall dealers and mechanics use to need services in the day to earn some bonus as warranty times from vauxhall are tight or even in impossible, so us retail punters end up paying through the nose for work

Right on the mustard SXi, I used to work for lots of garages when I was a kid, I used to see VW mechanics actually bin the brake fluid so to make bonus , still i guess brake fluid isn't really that important is it , lol
