Default Replacement for Estate Space Saver

    Hi All,
I know the estate doesn't have enough room for a full size spare alloy but has anyone succesfully managed to fit a steel wheel with a narrower tyre under the estate floor cover?
I've just moved to the Vec C SRI from a Mazda 6 TS2 Estate (which took a full sizer under floor) and hate not having a full size spare.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I have an estate aswell, I think the spare is a 16", can't see why a 16" alloy wouldn't fit though.. I was under the impression it was only cars that came with the 19" factory wheels that had a steel spare and not another alloy becasue of the width of the wheel ie: to take a 235mm tyre...
    might be wrong though..

    TO Kenp.

Are you sure that you are talking about the estate and not the normal hatchback? I had a 2.0 DTi estate that had 16" tyres on it and a spare steel wheel would not fit into the space where the space saver was, even with the plastic spacer removed.
The other 2 estates have been the same (17" wheels).

BUT the hatchback and sallons would accomodate a full size spare wheel.

How daft were VX when they designed the floor of the estate and didn't make the wheel well big enough for a full size spare. My 17" alloy makes the estate floor sit miles in the air and that's no use to man nor beast.

My plan is to aquire a steel wheel probably 16" and fit a tyre which will be narrow enough to let the floor sit down flat but still give the same rolling diameter of the 17" alloy and tyre.

Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had done it this way.

    Cheers for the replies.
