    Default Brake discs

Just had my cambelt changed and asked the garage to take a look at my brakes (been a while since pads were changed).

They confirmed that the pads are low, but also said the discs are going to need replacing soon too. I'm a little surprised as the car has only done 53k, but I trust the garage as they knew that I was planning on doing the work myself.

Is this about right for a new set of discs? Anyone got a price for a pair?

For the cost that VX stealers charge for a disc and pad kit (parts only), it's not much more than buying VX pads on their own. At this sort of price (£70-£80 for fronts IIRC), the discs work out really cheap - cheaper than buying discs and pads separately.

Someone on here should be along with prices and part numbers .

IMO 53K miles is not good for discs to be worn out. Mine are at 103K and still in good shape.

Your front discs are on 103K and not needing replaced? You are allowed to press the brake pedal to stop ya know!! lol

Seriously though, how? I assume practically all of your driving is on motorway then?

DNS - as gtr said you can get the Vx disc and apd set for around £65 if you were up to fitting them yourself.

I always thought that discs would need changing roughly around 40-60k for mixed driving and 20-30k for purely city driving (like taxis)

Yes, most of my driving in on M-way - - - that's why I get long tyre life, long pad life (over 75K) and full service intervals. I'm not a heavy braker either (unless I have to be of course) - -although I did have to change my rear pads that had only done 26K - cos the caliper to hanger spring had pinged out and the resulting misalignment caused uneven wear to the pads on that side, but the other side were fine with plenty of pad left....

    Car sympathy means longer life.

Blimey, 2 discs and a set of pads for £63+vat! Local dealers have them in stock! I guess that's where I'll be off to as soon as they've finished the cambelt...
