So I suppose the other 74% goes towards emptying my bin... joking apart I know a few lads who work for my local council and they are on very good wages and have private pensions running alongside their work ones.. so yes I can believe that their pensions dont add up to much..

I'm afraid the 26% is a bit of creative accounting on the part of some newspapers. It's more like 2%.

2% seem low to me. That wouldn't cover pension contributions. Also bearing in mind that council workers are different to everyone else, as they retire at 60 - I would have thought they would contribute more to offset the reduced years paying in. Must be special, striking aswell to maintain their rights to retire. Not good IMO. Bit of a '2 fingers' to the rest of us (who actually pay them), but Ho Hum.

Slightly off topic...our local council workers are pretty much dole-ies, they get paid for doing absolutely nowt...

Our bin-men wont even take the bin if the lid is slightly open...twits...

Anyway, I know one of these 'twits' and yesterday he was on strike...usually he works 7am until around 1pm...pi55 easy day if you ask me...

But as he was on the picket yesterday...he didn't get in till 7.30pm (8am start)....pi55ing myself with laughter when he told me..............................serves em right..

My wife works for local government and was on strike yesterday. The arguement is to do with the following. Councillers, teachers and government officails are allowed to retire at 60 if their years of service and years in the pension scheme = 85 however, normal workers such as the binmen, caretakers, cleaners etc and now being told that they don't have the right to this. Hence the reason for striking...

Should be one rule for everyone and not how the government is planning it to be.

You have got to remember that the pension for civil servents is part of the terms and conditions of the job they signed up to.They are paid a low wage as it is, and its not their fault that the government squanderd the money it had for pensions. How would you feel if your boss tells you to take a pay cut saying he has no money, when he wastes money on rubbish...

my binman must visit this site and he doesn`t like me discussing his pension shortfall. well i can`t think of any other reason for the useless ba5tard smashing my wing mirror this morning. bloke next door told me, (binmen half way up street) i confronted him about it and he says "i only clipped it mate". can`t really tell you guys and girls the rest of the conversation, except to say my mirror wasn`t the only thing that got a clip today.
