Default A new veccy for only ....

Having a look at prices today after seeing auto express saying what a good time to buy a new car.

A 1.8 vvt veccy can be had for .... £8999 about 5K off list price. Thats a lot of car for the money.

I had a look at my pick of the bunch, would have to be a 1.9 cdti SRI, just over £12k - I thought they were listed at about 18 - 19K a year ago.

Obviously the Insignia is causing a big drop in vectra prices but I dont think your going to loose much in depreciation if you buy new now. Aparently the lack of new car sales has a knock on effect - less part ex to clear so used vehicles are holding onto a bit more value.

Do I spend a grand on a leather interior for my 07 Astra sporthatch CDTI 150 or trade it for about 8K against a veccy ??

I have seen these figures touted about over the last couple of weeks but am unable to find any websites with these cars, any links to them please?

I am afraid that my recent experience does not reflect this.

The PX price given to me for my 2.2 Elite against an Antara sadly did not reflect this, in actual fact its the worst trade in price/depreciation that we have ever received!

I'd still haggle them down from there - I got my CDTi 150 in early 06, and even then got about £5.5k off list (after extras etc totalled in). So, paid not much more than the SRi price you've been given. I went into a main dealer with a quote from Broadspeed.com and challenged the guy to get it lower, like by changing the number before the comma in the price sticker.

So, given that it's a sliding market, I'd say the SRi is a bit OTT - although anything in the £8k mark has got to be good value for a new(ish) warrantied car. I'd expect the base price to stick somewhere in the £8k area, but for the rest of the range to collapse nearer to that (so don't take any flannel about the diesel being worth £blah extra, or the odd toy or two in the SRi being particularly worth it either).

Since Vectras are not being built any more (although the VXL site does list the VXR still, so maybe there are a few unpainted shells for a custom order), what you see is what you get - I'd be tempted to push for a Design instead of SRi, or even Elite, and see if you can still get it for £11-13k

I have seen the new cars on the Autotrader site but I am a little concerned that they are not Vauxhall dealers, should I be?

Incidentally there was a series of ads on the radio in London recently stating the prices of pre-registered that were on their Network Q website and these were very reasonable but I never managed to find them.
