Default Will an oil change improve MPG?

Vec's in need of an oil change (Glug on order from oil man [Opie Oils] - top geezer by the way!! Got some good deals for oil) I have noticed my MPG average has slipped over the last couple of months.

Got myself thinking about whether old oil would affect MPG? I know that the wrong grade can, I think?

    Anyone agree?

If its the wrong grade/too thick then yes. But TBH its more likely to be your driving style has altered without you noticing. The weather will have an effect too - like ising the heater/heated rear window, more fuel on cold mornings etc.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

My car was allegedly last serviced using 10w40 oil
The car has been on 5w30 oil for two weeks now and I can see no difference
However, one thing I have noticed is that there is less hesitation and rattle from cold start

Depends if you have let it go realy ****y, but would probably benefit from more of a full service i.e. plugs & air filter as well to notice any benefit

Anything that impairs engine performance and/or efficiency will have a detrimental effect on fuel consumption. Using the wrong oil or oil that has not been changed when it should have been would be just one of a whole host of factors that fall into that category.
