Default Q about Wheel nut tension

I have a 2004 Holden Vectra CDXi and the owner’s handbook says, under the maintenance schedule, that every 15,000 km or 12 months (whichever occurs first):

“Wheel attachment – loosen and tighten to torque 110 Nm”.

I was wondering if someone could please enlighten me as to why this should be done? Will the wheel fall off it’s not done, or is this just a Holden scam? Does Vauxhall make the same recommendation?

Probably to stop the nuts from seizing up

Probably as above is a reason, and also it's best to loosen a nut before tightening it so that you can get the correct torque.

Vx have the same in their manuals. You don't need to get them to do it, if you take your wheels off yourself often enough for any reason, then a torque wrench would be handy to have anyway.

Thanks guys. That makes sense. I will invest in a torque wrench.
