Diesel vs Petrol Calculator

Following on from the thread 'is diesel really more economical' I've had this simple Excel (v2003) spreadsheet for a few years that quickly works out the savings of diesel vs petrol. I think I've found a free hosting site and I've put it on there, so you should be able to download it. The link is:

Just put in your mileage, fuel consumption for petrol and diesel and then the price of petrol (if you enter the litres, make sure it is £0.839 if the price is 83.9p and so on).

I've used it for loads of car purchases as a guide, and it is useful. Also useful for roughly working out how much a trip/commute costs.

I agree with that..... its one of those questions that come up time and again.... not had chance to look proper but does it have pence per mile ?

IMO, this calculator should be extended to include service and routine maintenance costs too - as there can be a huge different between petrols and diesels in these areas and this would give a much fuller picture of the financial liabilities of each.

I thought they were both about the same to service these days?

I personally don't factor servicing costs into it when looking at a car. I know roughly in the priceband/type of cars that I look at how much they are to service and just accept that it has to be done whatever the cost. When it comes to getting a car serviced I then hunt around for the best deal combined with a good reputation.

The version of this I have on my PC has been doctored in the past to roll in insurance costs and financing costs on monthly/yearly basis.
