Default 1.8i VVT engine - what model is it in?

Maybe a daft question, but I own a Life model ( yeah, yeah, cut the "pauper" comments), which is a 1.8i VVT engine. I was also told that its the same engine in the SRI? is that true? If that is the case what do you get on an SRI for the extra bucks? I assume its a different suspension set up? possibly interior/body styling?

    Mines the sri 1.8 vvti.
Well you get real wheels "alloys" sports suspension, sri bumper's, black tinted headlights, sports interior, fancy tail pipe, fog lights etc and i'm sure a few other bit's and bobs.

Sounds from what you are describing as purely cosmetic rather than performance differences?

Yes i would not think you could get any more performance out of this pokkie little 1.8.
Even my size 13 boot on the right pedal struggles to make it perform.

Strange, because I find my 1.8i fairly nippy? ( maybe the sri has more weight with all the cosmetics?

It could be the fact that i came down from a 1.9 150 with tuning box to this little 1.8.
    I'ts a hell of a lot slower.

depends what you've had before mate.

    i've come to a 1.8vvt from a 2.0 16v bmw e46 coupe with around the same bhp,

i think the vectra picks up a little quicker if anythin - think the bm was a lot heavier though and rwd don't help with the smallish engine.

the steering wheel is slighly different too. the rear lights are tinted and the windows are slightly tinted from factory. engine wise - there is no difference from your 'life' model.

I came from a 200hp/310lb-ft 1.9CDTi Astra Sporthatch with VXR brakes and Bilstein B12 suspension kit. It was FAST.

You know what? The 1.8VVT really isn't all that bad. It could do with a little more poke for overtaking on B-roads, but other than that I'm quite surprised by it's performance.

i bought the astra sxi 1.8, 57 plate so traded it in as we had a new family addition now i have the starsilver vec 1.8 vvt sri 08 plate its night and day i find it quicker on the pick up than the atsra. when ur get the vec into third gear and and give it a sqeeze and once u hit 35 then 40 on the revs you will here the engine start to change from the quiet to a roar. dads car vrs mines. ford modeo 07 2.0 ltr tdi 140 hp vrs 08 1.8 vvt sri 140hp. result mines doesnt have quite the exceleration in first and second but third its bye bye fourth and fifth is the same so bigger engine doesnt always mean the better car
