Default Finally a tool thats as good as it says it is!

Changed all the dampers and springs on my other halfs Tigra with a lowered set yesterday.

Hit a problem taking apart the front stuts and did not have the special tool to do it. Well my nearest car place was Halfrauds and I needed to get the job done.

They did not have the tool to do the job but they did have a socket set which has hollow sockets:

Halfords Professional 19 Piece Vortex Socket Set:

    • Made from professional quality Chrome Vanadium Steel
    • Vortex Hollow Socket design removes the depth restrictions of normal sockets Contents:
      • 14 Metric Vortex Sockets - 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 30, 32, 34mm
      • Ratchet Handle
      • Vortex Hollow Extension 3" and 6"
      • 3/8 Drive Ratchet adapter
      • 1/2" Drive ratchet adapter
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_165572#dtab

I paid £19.99 for the set but they are on the web for £59.99 which is a bit strange.

Well to say the wrench and socket are the easiest to use would be an understatement. I used far less force to get nuts off and they allowed me to put another wrench and socket inside the hollow socket to hold the strut will I undone the main bolt.

I have to say its the best bit of kit I have ever brought and a fantastic price. Only down side is the sockets cannot be used with my Torque wrench so I have to use standard sockets.

That was £20?! Crikey, I'm off to Halfords now! I needed an 18mm deeper socket the other day when I did my drop links as the 18mm socket in the Halfords 150 piece kit was a smidge too shallow to get a good purchase and they don't do an 18" socket in 1/2" that I could see. Had to borrow and 18" 1/2" off my neighbour.

Can you not use the sockets on your torque wrench (1/2" I assume?) with the adapter?

There are adapter's to change the Vortex wrench to 1/2 and 3/4 so you can use normal sockets but not the otherway round

    Ah right.

I've just nipped down to my local Halfords as it's only 5 mins away and they had the kit you mentioned, priced on the shelf at £59.99. Asked the guy to get it out the cabinet and scan and it came up at the same price - told the guy about somebody I knew getting it for much less and he wondered if it was with a trade card (although it's still a hefty discount for a trade card!).

Was it with a card, or simply what it scanned at at the till? i.e. how did you know it was going to be that price. Was it priced like that on the shelf?

Right just got my receipt out my wallet and...................

I only paid £10 for the set!

They were marked up in the tool cupboard at £39.99 1/2 price now £19.99 which I was more than happy with. I remember the assistant saying thats a good price at 1/2 off. I think she took another 1/2 off through the till, dozy mare.
Going to see if I can scan my till receipt in and post it up

Had a closer look and it says 47pc Vortex set and mine was 19pc, even more confused now!

    No trade card involved

If I get the chance I will check to see if they have anymore
