just had a quick scan through the which? best buys for ya....

it appears that a half decent 42" LCD is going to cost waaaay more then your budget... 32 or 37" no problem.

if you're determined to have 42" the only ones that come anywhere near your budget are plasma tv's and may i suggest the Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma as a start?? A little over budget, but their other, cheaper best buy, also a Viera was let down by pitiful sound... Perhaps if you've got home cinema speakers already - might be worth looking at?

There's a billionty sets to choose from in all honesty - my advice would be to pop to a large TV showroom type place - have a look at how they perform and then buy it on-line (or get currys/comet etc to match it)

Should hope so, would be extremely ****ed off if it didn't last for nearer 10 years.

I consider 5 years to be a short life span for a TV. We have an older CRT in one of our daughters bedrooms that is still going strong after 10 years

Cathode Ray Tube, ie the ones we all used to have before flat screens were invented.
